The Best Tips on Styling for Your Next Session
- Choose a color palette (earthy, neutral, jewel tones, etc) for a cohesive look.
- My favorite tip - Ladies, choose something with movement. A flowy dress or skirt works perfectly!
- Try to coordinate without looking "matchy". I think it's easy to start with one statement piece (for example, mom's flowy dress) then plan everyone else's outfit.
- Texture! For example, in the fall I would bring a cozy knit cardigan or sweater. This could also be textured tights or a corduroy outfit for the kids. Muslin looks beautiful on babies. Texture adds depth.
- Think timeless. Classic, essential pieces.
- Be mindful of patterns. If you decide to wear a pattern, try to limit yourself to one and plan other outfits from the colors in it.
- Avoid neon colors and large logos.
- For babies, think simple rompers or one-piece outfits.
- Consider where the pictures are being taken. Maxi dresses are perfect for outdoor photos whereas if the pictures are being taken indoors you would want to dress cozier.
- Last but certainly not least - wear what you're comfortable in so you look comfortable in your photos!
